Opening Ceremony of the first Pilot Grid-Tied Solar PV Project

The Ministry of Energy and Water on Wednesday launched in Kabul solar power generation grid on experimental basis amid hopes that the initiative would reduce pressure on national power grids, Ghulam Farooq Qazizad , acting minister while inaugurating the maiden pilot project said the project was the first of its kind in Kabul Afghanistan. He added the advantage of solar based energy was that it reduce dependency and pressure on government power grids. Qazizada said the project would have the capacity of generating 3 kilowatt energy and would be supported by Germany with technical cooperation of Zularistan Ltd “It may not be a big project, but it is a first step in solar based energy sector.” He added this experimental project would be conducted in order to evaluate feasibility, time and cost prior to launching a full scale solar based energy system.

According to energy and water ministry officials, Afghanistan has great capacity to produce solar based energy. In one year at least 300 days are sunny in Afghanistan.
